Witty! Thrilling! Mozart’s ‘Da Ponte Trilogy’
A new Le nozze de Figaro beyond imagination
A masterpiece created by the collaboration of Mozart and librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte! Based on Pierre Beaumarchais’ play, which was once banned for its criticism of the aristocracy, this opera is filled with mischievous plots and thrilling revenge as servants outwit the nobleman who persistently claims his ‘right of the first night’.
David Reiland, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, known for his exquisitely precise musical interpretation and beloved by critics, collaborates with Korea National Opera once again, following
Synopsis
As Figaro prepares to marry Susanna, he discovers that Count Almaviva wants to exercise the ‘right of the first night*’, an outdated feudal right. Figaro, having played a crucial role in the marriage of Almaviva and Rosina, is outraged by the Count’s ungrateful attempt to take his bride for himself. The Countess, lamenting her husband’s waning affection, learns of the Count’s scheme from Susanna and Figaro. The three plot to deceive the Count, even disguising the young servant Cherubino as a woman. In the end, the Count kneels to beg his wife’s forgiveness, and Figaro and Susanna finally marry, promising a happy life.
